What is CEREC?
Chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics (CEREC) allows dentists to create crowns and veneers in their offices while patients wait. The innovative technique uses computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to produce the restorations.
How does CEREC work?
Crowns and veneers used to require two visits to your Nashua dentist. During the first appointment, your tooth was prepared and an impression of your mouth was made. Although the impression was immediately sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication of your crown or veneer, you had to wait about two weeks to receive your permanent restoration.
CEREC eliminates the dental lab and the waiting period. Your dentist uses a camera to make a digital impression of your mouth, designs your restoration, then sends it the in-office milling machine. The milling machine removes layers from a block of ceramic or porcelain to produce your new restoration.
What are the benefits of CEREC?
CEREC offers several important benefits, including:
- No Need for Multiple Visits: It's not always easy to get time off approved, even for dental visits. Thanks to CEREC's speedy process, you'll only need to schedule one appointment if you need a crown or veneer.
- Speedy Process: Producing your crown or veneer only takes about an hour.
- No Temporary Crown or Veneers: Temporary crowns are crucial if you receive a traditional crown. Although the crowns protect your teeth and allow you to chew normally, they aren't as tough as permanent crowns and require special care to prevent breaking or loosening them. In some cases, dentists also apply temporary veneers to teeth. Neither of these temporary restorations is needed when you choose CEREC crowns or bridges.
